Theoryresearch and organization

Accordingto Smith-Acuna (2014), system theory plays an important role inunderstanding human behaviors. It is essential for psychologistsworking in different scenarios and is applicable in individuals, couples as well as families. Generally, the system theory acts asthe foundation of other psychological theories. However, the authorargues that there is no single way in which the theory can be appliedsince it is more applicable in cases that require broaderperspective. This means that it works best when the psychologist isconsidering different options of dealing with a client. In the sameway system theory can be used to understand and use differentpsychological theories in dealing with a case, it can also be used inpsychological research. It offers an essential template that can beused to interpret psychological research and avoid some of thelimitation of traditional research methods. In many cases, researchers have misinterpreted or misused the result of a study tosupport their arguments or conclusion. The system theory assistspsychologists to appropriately use research finding. Rather thansaying ‘the study shows”, the psychologist will focus on theconclusion of the research and say “the research says”. Thus, thesystem theory is not concerned about whether an argument make senseor not, but whether the argument is supported by research. The authoralso argues that system theory can be applied in the organizationalsetting. This is one of the major applications of system theorybeyond the psychologists’ clinic, especially when they are requiredto give psychological and counseling to staff in an organizationalsetting (Smith-Acuna, 2014). In general, although the system theoryis reliable and satisfying, it is not the only theory that bringssimilar results.
